About SkatingSafe Figure Skating Fall Protection |
Formed in 1990, our Company, SkatingSafe, Inc., had a single product, GUMS™ Lace Bite pads. These crash pads were marketed exclusively to professional hockey teams. The GUMS™ Lace Bite pads were our primary market until we attended the 1998 United States Figure Skating Association National Championship in Philadelphia.
At the time, fall protection products that were available to protect ice skaters during falling were bulky and/or restricted free movement. We discovered that the figure skate pads for inside new boots were either very expensive, ineffective or both, and the Crash Pads (Figure Skating Pads) to protect during falls that were available were not successfully meeting the needs of skaters, who require Crash Pads that work.
By the Fall of 1998, our research had found a "Medical Grade Gel" that was effective, durable and less expensive than those that were currently available! The first Clear Clouds™ gel pads were sold in January 1999. Our first Fall Protection pads, Crash Pads, (Impact Absorbers™) were sold in June 1999; satisfying skaters' requests of effective, thin, light weight and unobtrusive crash pads. Our ice skating gel pads are held in position by being worn under two pairs of tights.
The second generation of Hip Protector was introduced in 2001. These figure skate gel pads offered ultimate impact energy absorption, durability and were shaped more anatomically correctly. These new UltraCrash™ pads are now available in hip pad, knee pad, spine pad and elbow pad versions. The hip pad and knee pad have been issued a US Patent #US 6,374,410 B2. They are a unique Figure skating pad! UltraCrash™ pads are fast becoming the most popular form of Ice skating pads for fall protection available to competitive Ice figure skaters.
We are continuing our quest to address protection from pressure and impact related soft tissue injuries that figure skaters should not have to endure.
